McCall's 5042 - Numero Cuatro

Pattern: McCall's 5042 (view A)

Size: size 8

Fabric: Yellow with orange, black and white floral print stretch cotton from Fabricland (Canadian chain fabric store).

Project Photo:

Comments: This is a V-neck version of the pattern that has been near and dear to my heart as of late (see here, here and here).

This dress is done is a heavyweight stretch cotton that I picked up for a song in the clearance section of my local chain fabric store last year. I really like the funky floral pattern.

This dress is made the same way as the other three, so not much to add.

Conclusion: Another quick and easy, yet flattering and fun to wear version of M5042.

Your dresses all look so good! I was wondering. Do any non-sewers, or people who don't know you sew, ever notice the repeats of patterns? Or do they just see the fabric colours? Even if they do notice, them might assume you just bought (!) the same dress/trousers/top in all the available colours!

Hope you can still find the energy to sew now you back in the saltmines.

Cheers,
AJ

I am so behind on my blog reading. Your dresses look beautiful on you. And I look forward to seeing what you sew with all that yummy fabric you got last weekend!

That pattern makes the cutest dresses. You are smart for using it over and over again because they are so flattering on you.

All 4 dresses are just great. I like the tropical print one the best, just because I like the fabric.

I wish the Fabricland stores in Vancouver carried as nice fabric as yours does - mine is all crappy stuff!

Your dresses look great, I'm buying that pattern :-)

I would love to see a post with all your versions side-by-side. They are all beautiful, but different. I need to learn how to turn one pattern into so many different looks.

Shannon at her wardrobe: "mmm, what beautiful dress am I going to wear today? Sigh...too many to choose from." Another great dress!

I'm really enjoying this pattern on you. The question asked by AJ is a good one. I honestly don't think non-sewers have the same eye we do. Well, maybe a person who's really into fashion so that they make a study out of it would , but the rest of our friends and family and coworkers don't. I've come to that conclusion after making and wearing the same jacket pattern 4 or 5 times. People usually see color first and foremost. By the way, I'm getting this pattern even though I usually go the sheath route.
Maggie
PS Hope school is off to a good start.

Of them all, this one is my favorite! The dress is so flattering on you and the colors suit you well. You've inspired me to be more courageous with prints.
